Women In Leadership Panel

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has focused on increasing the participation of women in its workforce and integrating women into non-traditional military roles. The Navy, for example, has committed to a female participation target of 25% by 2023.

The Women in Australian Defence Force Report 2014–2015 shows that the overall proportion of female ADF officers nationally rose to 18.8%. After concerted efforts to improve women’s prospects in leadership roles, the proportion of female officers in the senior leadership group rose from 10.7% in 2013–2014 to 10.9% (1 woman). The total number of women in the permanent ADF, located in WA, was 16% as at 30 June 2015

Despite significant commitment at a senior level to achieve gender equality, progress has been slower than anticipated, which is similar in experience to a number of other non-Defence related sectors.

Join our diverse panel from Defence Sector industries as they share:

  • An overview of their own career path and the leadership challenges and opportunities they have faced
  • Their views on the main challenges to gender equality today in Defence and other sectors
  • Insights, solutions and strategies for changing the culture of the workplace to one of empowerment and equality.

You will be invited to ask questions and share your own views in the discussion during the interactive Q&A segment moderated by Serge DeSilva, President of the Australian Industry & Defence Network WA.

Guest Speakers include:

  • Nicole Curtin - Acting Assistant Secretary, Culture and People Development, Department of Defence
  • Laura Anderson - Board Member, Joint Education and Training Advisory Board, Department of Defence
  • Captain Angela Bond - Former Commander HMAS Stirling Royal Australian Navy
